Garden of Eatin’

This community garden is a mission of First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville and Jacksonville Christian Outreach Center (JCOC). Enjoy fresh produce grown with love by community volunteers. We provide it free for clients of JCOC and others who need help. We are glad to serve you at the garden on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. during the growing season (March - November). Look for us at the corner of Frances Street and Spring Avenue, behind McDonald’s in Jacksonville. We provide free produce to JCOC, Community Enabler, Anniston Soup Bowl, Jacksonville Public Housing, and Jacksonville Senior Citizens Center.

GARDEN GUIDELINES

The Garden of Eatin’ is maintained by volunteers from the church as well as from Jacksonville State University, Calhoun County Master Gardeners and elsewhere. If you need assistance, we invite you to come during operating times to pick vegetables at no cost.

We ask that you follow the rules below to assure that there is enough for everyone and that the crops are properly cared for.

1. Pick vegetables only when staff volunteers are present and able to instruct and assist you. You may come to pick only on Mondays or Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. if staff members are working. The garden is not open on rainy days.

2.  Please do not pick green tomatoes or immature corn.

3.  Please pick no more produce than what you need to feed your family for a week, but not more than 2 grocery bags full.

4.  Please pick not more than 5 tomatoes or 5 peppers.

5.  Please limit your trips to the garden to once per week.

6.  Our produce is available for you and your family to eat. Do not sell it. Selling our produce may cause you to lose your garden privileges.

We hope that you enjoy our produce and that you will consider volunteering to work in the garden.
