Community Thanksgiving Dinner

This year, on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2017, Jacksonville First United Methodist Church will partner with St. Luke's Episcopal Church in preparing a Thanksgiving Day feast for the Jacksonville community. This festive meal, which includes turkey,  ham, and all the trimmings, is available to one and all free of charge. Meals may be ordered for delivery, picked up, or you may dine in at the St. Luke's Parish Hall.

Pickup Carry-Out Meals at 11:00 pm

Dining Room Open: 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

To place a delivery order: Call St. Luke's in advance (256-435-9271) November 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, & 22. They will need your name, address phone number, and the number of meals you would like.

Be a part of it all!

Do you have family obligations on Thanksgiving Day, but would still like to help? There are lots of ways to do that. Check out the donation signup sheets outside worship areas - you may sign up to provide items necessary for the meal, or a monetary donation, before Thanksgiving. Do you like to cook?  This dinner, which feeds as many as 500 people, will require at least 40+ roasted turkeys. If you could roast a whole turkey (or two!!)  for the meal, please call Linda George at St. Luke's: 256-435-9271. It needs to be roasted, not smoked or fried, and not with peanut oil, (in case of allergies).

If you would like to help on Thanksgiving Day, you may call our church office (or St. Luke's). Our office number is 256-435-6021, and email is office@jaxfumc.org. Just give us your name and contact information.

The Serving Table

This is a free lunch  which is open to the public on the 4th Saturday of every month in our McWhorter Activitiy Center (gym). It's open from 11:00 to 1:00, and includes an entree, vegetables, dessert, and a variety of drink choices. Just a way of taking care of those in our neighborhood who might be hungry at the end of the month. Frequently, fresh produce from the Community Garden (at the corner of Francis and Spring Streets) is served here.

Community Garden

This ministry is a garden plot located at the corner of W. Francis and Spring Streets. Both spring and winter gardens are planted, and they are tended by volunteers. The harvests are usually taken to Jacksonville Christian Outreach Center, where the fresh vegetables are shared with their clients. Vegetables also go to The Serving Table, where they help to feed our community.

Jax Snack Packs

Another way of ministering to our neighbors was developed to help feed children who receive free breakfasts and lunches at school when they went home for the weekend. Volunteers pack backpacks with simple, reheatable foods and snacks to help keep these children from being hungry on the weekends..

Jacksonville Christian Outreach Center

JCOC is a community help agency for residents in the 36265 zip code. It is supported by 22 area churches who donate to it monthly. Located at 206 Francis Street, it shares a parking lot with JFUMC. This agency can provide one-time assistance with utility bills, groceries, prescriptions and other needs. Their phone number is 256.435.1891, and they are open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm.
